Maverick Vinales flies to commanding Phillip Island pole

Maverick Vinales shot to a dominant pole position for the Australian GP at Phillip Island, the Spaniard posting three times fast enough for his third pole of the season. Vinales-who has looked the man to beat come rain or shine throughout the weekend- immediately shot to the head of the times as the first flying runs of Q2 came to a close, the Yamaha pilot managing a 1:28.736 to put him three-tenths clear of Fabio Quartararo. He then went on to post three consecutive improvements on his final run on a new set of soft compound tyres-all quicker than anyone else could manage across the shootout.
