Joan Mir led the combined timesheets in Moto2 on Friday ahead of the Italian Grand Prix by topping the second practice session ahead of Sam Lowes. Marc VDS rider Mir has been at the centre of much speculation prior to this weekend regarding his future in MotoGP, with the Spaniard hotly linked to a seat at the factory Suzuki team next year. Moto2 rookie Romano Fenati set the early pace in the first session of the Italian Grand Prix weekend on his Marinelli Snipers machine with a 1:54.627s.
