Alex Marquez headed Lorenzo Baldassarri on the combined Moto2 timesheets on the opening day of practice for the Spanish Grand Prix. Championship leader Francesco Bagnaia topped the opening session of the day, the Sky VR46 rider edging two tenths clear of the field with a 1:42.836s in the closing minutes of FP1. The double race winner in 2018 was trailed by CGBM Evolution KTM's Sam Lowes, a 1:43.019s set with 15 minutes remaining initially putting him top of the standings.
