Barcelona completes new MotoGP chicane for 2017

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has unveiled the new chicane which will become part of the MotoGP layout following the death of Moto2 rider Luis Salom last year. During the 2016 Catalan Grand Prix, Salom lost control of his bike in the high-speed Turn 12 and hit the tyre wall at speed. The corner, which features very little run-off area, is taken at almost 150km/h. For the remainder of the event, MotoGP switched to the Formula 1 track layout which features a slower and sharper right-hand turn before a chicane slows the cars further before the final corner which leads onto the start/finish straight.
