Marc Marquez undergoes medical check: ‘The doctors are happy’
Struggling with ongoing mobility and pain issues in his upper right arm, Marquez stepped back from the 2022 season following Mugello to undergo a fourth operation on the bone he initially broke in July 2020.
Two weeks after that realignment procedure at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, which involved cutting and rotating the bone by over 30-degrees before fixing it in place, the Repsol Honda star visited the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid to see his trusted medical team and Dr. Sanchez Sotelo from the Mayo Clinic.
Given his previous issues, checking for any signs of infection is sure to have been high on the agenda.
“Today I had a medical check in Madrid and the doctors are happy,” Marquez said. “My arm is immobilised, and it will be like this for the next few weeks. My feelings so far are positive because I have no pain, this is very important.
“It allows me to rest and follow the doctors’ rules: a healthy diet, drink a lot and try to hang out with our dogs because it is important that the body is not inactive. The most important thing from my doctors is that I have to be calm and patient.”
Dr Sotelo, Chair of the Division of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, added: "Today, Marc Marquez underwent a medical check-up in Madrid with Dr. Antuña, Dr. Cotorro and myself, confirming a positive evolution of the surgical wound.
“Starting today, he will begin performing controlled exercises of passive mobilisation of the shoulder and elbow until a new revision in four weeks.”
The eight-time World Champion, whose perfect German MotoGP domination since 2013 will end due to his absense on Sunday, is again being replaced by HRC test rider Stefan Bradl during his recovery.
