Simoncelli's number 58 retired from MotoGP
– MotoGP promoter Dorna Sports has announced that it is to retire the number 58 used by the late Marco Simoncelli, ahead of this weekend's San Marino Grand Prix at Misano.Simoncelli died aged 24 following a crash at the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix, and his number has been unused in MotoGP since, aside from Loris Capirossi's tribute at Valencia that year.However, during a press conference at Misano, which was renamed in Simoncelli's honour in 2012, Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta stated that the number now belongs to Simoncelli's family."It's a big pleasure, you remember we talked about this year to retire the number 58 from the grid of MotoGP for the future, and this is what we're...
