MotoGP: 58 retired to honour Marco Simoncelli
MotoGP have officially retired Marco Simoncelli’s race number in a ceremony at the Misano circuit named in his honour, with his father Paolo and MotoGP boss Carmelo Ezpeleta taking to the stage together to make the announcement. The number will now be withdrawn from use – but will be granted to a rider who asks the permission of the Simoncelli family in the future. However, the family also announced some news of their own at the event, confirming that the Moo3 team that Paolo set up in memory of his son will make the move next year from the Junior World Championship in Spain to the MotoGP paddock.
