Pol Espargaro wasn't considered for factory Yamaha seat
Yamaha protege Pol Espargaro was not among the candidates to replace Jorge Lorenzo in the factory squad for 2017, team boss Lin Jarvis has confirmed. Espargaro, now in his third year with Yamaha's satellite team Tech 3, had a solid start to 2016, finishing all five races so far between fifth and eighth. However, the Spaniard was not mentioned much as a possible candidate to replace Lorenzo once the latter's move to Ducati was confirmed, with Maverick Vinales and Dani Pedrosa emerging as the two most likely choices.
