Mugello MotoGP: Rossi storms to pole on home turf
Valentino Rossi left it late to grab a second pole position of the MotoGP season on home soil at Mugello, getting the perfect tow from Maverick Vinales to grab the top spot in the dying stages. The 37-year-old Italian will start from the front of the grid at the Tuscan track for the first time since 2008 after besting Vinales by just 0.094s in the final reckoning after a tense second qualifying session. Rossi hadn't looked like being a contender for a front row slot for much of the running, as Andrea Iannone picked up where he had left off in practice by setting the fastest time of the first runs, a 1m46.727s.
