Spanish rider was never "an obligation" - Yamaha
Yamaha MotoGP boss Lin Jarvis says the Japanese squad did not have the obligation to hire a Spanish rider to replace Jorge Lorenzo. The reigning world champion announced earlier this year that he would leave Yamaha to ride for Ducati next year, leaving a spot open alongside Valentino Rossi. Yamaha, whose main sponsor is Spanish telecommunications giant Movistar, has signed Maverick Vinales to replace Lorenzo. Although Jarvis admitted Movistar preferred a Spanish rider, he denied the team was contractually obligated to hire one.
