Rossi Holds Off Marquez in Dramatic Finish

Valentino Rossi returned to winning ways with a crucial victory at Assen but not without a fierce battle with Marc Marquez. The rivals were inseparable throughout the 26 lap race before everything came to a head at the final chicane as the leaders made contact, Rossi escaping through the gravel trap to take his third win of the season. The race took shape very early on with Rossi converting pole into a first lap lead ahead of Marquez while Jorge Lorenzo made his customary lightning start to gain five places, moving him up to third.
