Japanese LCR Honda rider Takaaki Nakagami took his first ever pole position for the Alcaniz GP, pipping both last weekend's race winner Alex Rins and the SRT of Franco Morbidelli on his last flying lap. The number 30 rider put in a lap time of 1:46.882 just as the clock ran out, a time that was six-tenths faster than the second place rider of Morbidelli. Aragon GP winner Alex Rins will start from third on the grid for tomorrow's race, after making way for the Honda and Yamaha pilots.
