Lorenzo back on pole at Jerez

Jorge Lorenzo added an incredible fifth Jerez pole position to his tally, signalling his return to the MotoGP Championship fight. Lorenzo, who went into Saturday's qualifying having featured on the front row of the grid in all seven of his previous Jerez MotoGP starts, was the first rider out on track. He clocked a 1:38.497 while Pol Espargaro was second, 0.042s down, and Marc Marquez third, a further 0.035s off the pace. Despite riding with a broken little finger on his left hand, Marquez next lap saw him up on Lorenzo through the first and second splits and he looked set to challenge only to lose time at the end of the lap.
