Mugello race winner Jorge Lorenzo tops the first day of free practice while MotoGP World Championship leader Marc Marquez crashes at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. The Spaniard fresh on the back of signing a deal to join the Repsol Honda team for the next two years posted the fastest lap of the day with a 1.38.930 which was set on soft front and rear tyres, something which the Ducati and Lorenzo have shown they have been able to do considerable distance on. Andrea Iannone was second fastest on his Suzuki GSX-RR and despite an argument in the middle of the session with his 2019 Aprilia team-mate Aleix Espargaro, the Italian was just a tenth off of Lorenzo’s fastest time.
